It’s been a hectic week, but I’ve been able to devote some time to learning the latest iPhone SDK. It’s a massive framework, so it’s a bit much to get one’s head around at first, but it’s really powerful. After reading a book on the topic for a few hours, I was able to crank out a barebones UI for PadMapper Mobile in 15 minutes thanks to the absurdly powerful Interface Builder (note: despite the name PadMapper, the mobile version is probably not going to have a map-based search UI, since its focus is finding apartments around you so you can check them out while you’re in the area).
A couple of hours later, it’s pulling appropriate apartment listings from the server and printing them nicely.
Now I see why there are so many iPhone applications… it seems MUCH less painful to write than the average desktop C/C++ program, especially on the UI front.
If anyone has an idea for a name for PadMapper Mobile, drop me an email. If I pick yours, I’ll give you props. And maybe an extremely-limited edition PadMapper tshirt, if they ever get designed/made. Speaking of which, anyone want to design a PadMapper tshirt? 🙂
