You may have noticed a little box on the upper right of the map saying something about logging in or registering. That means accounts are here!
I resisted them for a long time, since I hate signing up for every single website I go to. As a result, PadMapper has been designed such that accounts aren’t really necessary for any of the core stuff. However, there are no guarantees that someone (or you) won’t wipe your computer’s cookies and nuke all of your PadMapper progress. Accounts make things a bit more stable, storing your seen stuff, favorites, hidden stuff, etc. on the server, in a cookie-wipe-proof way. If someone wipes your cookies, you’ll just have to log in again and voila, all your stuff will be there. This means you can log in on your work computer and your home computer (not that you should be PadMapping at work), and both computers will know what you’ve seen so far, and what are in your favorites list.
The other reason they were necessary: notes. You can now take notes on your favorites! You can keep track of whether you liked a place, when your appointments are, anything you want. I couldn’t have people’s notes being wiped out by a cookie wipe, so login is required to take notes.
Hope you like the new features. As always, feedback welcome (padmapper@gmail.com).
Happy hunting!
Wonderful!! If only this had been enabled before we found our apartment! 🙂
Think you could add notes to the stored favorites email that you can send out? That email is the handiest way for me to reference Padmapper favorites from my smartphone while I’m out actually checking them out.
Yep, it’s been added, check it out.
Can you link the account data with the iPhone and iPad app? This site would be 10x more useful if I could search on my computer and then have my account favorites and notes on the go.
Thanks for the hard work!
